The Turkish Final was held on February 13th at the TRT TV studios in Ankara, hosted by Canan Kumbasar. The winning song was chosen by an „expert“ jury, however there was a tie for first place between „Sufi“ and „Onikiden“. As the jury chairman preferred „Sufi“ it was chosen as the winner.

Mazhar-Fuat-Özkan previously represented Turkey in ESC 1985 and also took part in the 1987 Turkish Final. One of the members of the group (Özkan Ugur) also took part in the 1978 Turkish Final in the group Karma. At the ESC they came 15th. One of the singers in the group Efekt was Seden Kutlubay who won the 1986 Turkish Final as a member of the group Klips ve Onlar, however she refused to go to the ESC and was replaced by Candan Ercetin. Sevingül Bahadir was a member of the group Klips ve Onlar that represented Turkey in 1986. One of the members of the group Ultraviyole was Gür Akad who was the guitarist with the group Klips ve Onlar.
