The Swedish Final was held on February 17th at the Cirkus in Stockholm, hosted by Ulf Elfving. The winner was chosen by the votes of 11 regional juries.

Ted Gärdestad previously came equal 4th in the 1973 Swedish Final & equal 7th in 1975. At the ESC he was 17th.
