The emerging artists were chosen via 4 semi-finals, a second chance round and an emerging artists final held at Teatro Titano in the City of San Marino, hosted by Gianfranco Gori. In the first 3 semi-finals the qualifiers were chosen in two rounds of voting – in the first round the artists performed an original song and the top 8 were selected to perform a cover version in the second round. The top 3 then qualified for the emerging artists final. The singers who placed 4th-8th went forward to the second chance round. In the 4th semi-final the artists performed both an original song and a cover version before the top 3 were chosen for the emerging artists final. In the second chance round the qualifiers were chosen in two rounds of voting – in the first round the artists performed an original song and the top 6 were selected to perform a cover version in the second round. The top 5 then qualified for the emerging artists final. In the emerging artists final the top 9 qualified for the final. All decisions were made by an „expert“ jury.
