The Romanian Final was held on February 27th at the Palatul Copiilor in Bucharest, hosted by Celia Petricu & Dan Negru. The winning song was chosen by televoting, however it emerged that there were problems with the televoting. The composers of the runner-up by Valahia threatened to take legal action because after one hour of televoting they were in the lead, and there was only supposed to be one hour for televoting. However, for some reason there ended up being 3 hours for televoting, at the end of which Taxi were the winners.

Monica Anghel won the 1996 Romanian Final with „Ruga pentru pacea lumii“ but was knocked out in the Pre-Selection for ESC 1996. Taxi came 17th at the ESC where they performed the song in English as „The Moon“.
