The Portuguese Final was held at the Teatro São Luiz in Lisbon on March 7th, hosted by Lucia Moniz & Carlos Ribeiro. The winner was chosen by an „expert“ jury.

One of the members of Alma Lusa was Pedro Soares who previously came 6th in the 1997 Portuguese Final in the group ‚Os Meninos da Sacristia‘. Alma Lusa came 12th at the ESC. Ana Isabel was a backing singer for Portugal in ESC 1995.
