
The Portuguese Final was held on February 15th at the Teatro Maria Matos in Lisbon, hosted by Maria Elisa & José Nuno Martins. The winner was chosen by the composers/authors of the participating songs who had to award between 1-5 points to the songs other than their own.

Duarte Mendes previously came 8th in the 1971 Portuguese Final, 6th in 1972 & 3rd in 1973. At the ESC he was 16th. Paulo De Carvalho represented Portugal in ESC 1974.
