The Icelandic Final was held on February 17th at the RUV TV Studios in Reykjavik, hosted by Steinunn Ólína Þorsteinsdóttir. The winner was chosen by televoting.

Kristján Gíslason previously came 2nd & 10th in the 1991 Icelandic Final. At the ESC, he & Gunnar came equal 22nd. Eyjólfur Kristjánsson represented Iceland at ESC 1991 and was a backing singer for Iceland in ESC 1994, 1995 & 2000. Rúna G. Stefánsdóttir was a backing singer for Iceland at ESC 1999.
