The Icelandic final was held on February 9th at the RUV TV Studios in Reykjavik, hosted by Valgeir Guðjónsson. The winner was chosen by the votes of 8 regional juries and an „expert“ jury.

Eyjólfur Kristjánsson previously came 3rd in the 1987 Icelandic Final, 2nd & 3rd in 1988, equal 2nd in 1989 (in the group ‚Bítlavinafélagið‘) & 6th in 1990. Stefán Hilmarsson represented Iceland in ESC 1988. The song title was changed to „Nina“ for the ESC where it came 15th. One of the backing singers at the ESC was Erna Þórarinsdóttir. Helga Möller was a member of the group Icy that represented Iceland in 1986.
