
The Finnish Final was held on February 16th at the YLE TV Studios in Helsinki, hosted by Seppo Hovi. Before the final there was a radio semi-final in which the following 5 songs were eliminated: „Houmen kauas johtaa“ – Bianca Morales, „Minut muistatko vielä“ – Tapani Kansa, „Sanat sanomatta jäivät“ – Tapani Kansa, „Ei tarvii sympatiaa“ – Jokke Seppälä and „Musiikin syke“ – Sonja Lumme. The winner was chosen by 6 regional juries.

Sonja Lumme previously came 5th, 6th & 11th in the 1984 Finnish Final. At the ESC, she was 9th. Ami Aspelund represented Finland in ESC 1983. Riki Sorsa represented Finland in ESC 1981. Jokke Seppälä was a backing singer for Finland in ESC 1983 & 1984 and went on to be one of Sonja Lumme’s backing singers at the ESC.
