
The Finnish Final was held on March 8th at the YLE TV Studios in Tampere, hosted by Mikko Alatalo. Before the final, there was a semi-final on January 12th in which 5 songs were eliminated – the finalists were chosen by an „expert“ jury. The winner was chosen by 5 regional juries.

Vesa-Matti Loiri previously came 3rd in the 1975 Finnish Final. At the ESC he was 19th where Irina Milan was one of his backing singers.
