Ellen Winther

Ellen Winter Lemburn (née Sorensen; August 11, 1933 – August 13, 2011) was a Danish opera house. singer and actress, known worldwide for her participation in the song contest Eurovision 1962.

Winter studied opera and made her debut in 1957 at the Royal Danish Theatre, where she worked as a singer and dramatic actress for 30 years.

In 1962, Winter won the selection for the Danish Eurovision Song Contest with the song „Vuggevise“ („Lullaby“) and went to the seventh Eurovision Song Contest. Ellen finished in 10th place out of 16 participants.

Winter became well known to the Danish audiences thanks to numerous performances in film and television, and also singing in operas, musicals and revues. In 1983, she was awarded the Order Dannebrog for her contribution to art in Denmark.

Ellen Winter was married to pianist John Winter in 1960-66, with two children from this marriage, and also on writer and politician Hans Jørgen Lömbourne from 1973 until his death in 1997.
