The Cypriot Final was held on March 1st at the Monte Caputo Nightclub in Limassol, hosted by Marina Maleni & Loukas Hamatsos. The winner was chosen by an „expert“ jury.

Michalis Hadjiyiannis previously came 2nd & 3rd in the 1995 Cypriot Final and 2nd in 1996. At the ESC he came 11th. Nasia Trachonitou was a backing singer for Cyprus in ESC 1989, 1991 & 1995. Dalida Mitzi was also a backing singer for Cyprus in ESC 1991. Kyriakos Zymboulakis represented Cyprus in ESC 1993 and was a backing singer for Cyprus in 1994. Alexandros Panayi represented Cyprus in 1995 and was also a backing singer for Cyprus in ESC 1989 & 1991.
