Brainstorm (Latvian: Prāta Vētra) is a Latvian pop/rock band. The band was formed in the summer of 1989 by four former classmates – Renārs Kaupers, Jānis Jubalts, Gundars Mauševics and Kaspars Roga. Soon after, their classmate Māris Mihelsons also joined the band. At the end of 1996, After achieving much fame when Latvian radio stations started to play the song Tavas mājas manā azotē, Brainstorm won the Latvian national final for Eurovision in 2000 and went on to become the first ever Latvian representatives for the contest in Stockholm, performing the song My Star where they finished in 3rd place. The song was noted for its atypical style for Eurovision and was played internationally thereafter.
Brainstorm had much success after this, releasing two decades worth of albums in Latvian, English and Russian. In 2005 they set a record for the most people to attend a concert in Latvia (40,000) and in 2006 they won an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Baltic Act.
