The French Final was held on March 14th at the La Plaine St Denis TV Studios near Paris, hosted by Michel Drucker & Claudy Siar. The final was the culmination of a ‚Pop Idol‘ type show, solely to select the singer to represent France in the ESC. The song that the winner was intended to sing at the ESC – „Nous, c’est vous“ was considered unsuitable for Virginie and therefore she sang another song at the ESC – „Il était temps“. The winner was chosen by televoting (50%) and an „expert jury“ (50%) in two rounds – the first to select the top 3 and the second to select the winner.
